Swim Meet Guidelines

The following guidelines are set forth to help swimmers achieve maximum performance in competition.

Entries:

  • For each meet the team is attending, a sign up sheet will be placed on the bulleting board with a stated deadline. When the deadline has passed, no further entries will be accepted.
  • Coach TOM will decide which swimmers participate in a meet as well as which events each swimmer is entered.
  • Scratching events before or during a meet is not permitted without the express permission of Coach TOM.
  • Swimmers may only participate in meets approved by Coach TOM. Individual participation in other meets is not recommended without the express permission of Coach TOM in very special circumstances!

Warm Ups:

  • All swimmers are expected to be PUNCTUAL for, and NO swimmers may miss, warm-ups. The coaching staff should be advised in a timely manner of any anticipated tardiness for a warm up and parents will be expected to make the arrangements with coaching staff in the event of late arrival.
  • The coaching staff may require a mini war up at any time deemed appropriate for a particular swimmer.
  • Team caps are required to be worn during warm ups.
  • Team suits should NOT be worn during warm ups. Please use only old swim suits.

The Swim:

  • Swimmers are required to wear team swim suits and team caps for every event unless express prior permission has been given by Coach TOM in very special circumstances.
  • Swimmers are required to report to the coaching staff before every event for instructions.
  • Swimmers are required to cool down – double the distance swum in the even – after a swim.
  • Swimmers are required to report to the coaching staff after the cool down for a critique of performance.

General Meet Modus Operandi:

  • All swimmers are required to remain in the team area chosen by the coaching staff for the duration of the meet.
  • Swimmers are however encouraged to visit their parents during the meet after a swim.
  • Swimmers may not depart from a meet without advising coaching staff.
  • Swimmers are encouraged to bring sleeping bags and pillows to every meet for relaxation purposes.
  • Swimmers are expected to bring warm shoes to wear on the pool deck as heat loss from the feet is detrimental to swimming performance.
